Some important facts

Biodiversity also includes the earth’s ecosystems: its savannas, forests, oceans, marshes, and deserts. It also includes the variety of genes within species…just look around you to understand the genes…see the different shapes and colours of fruits, the different eye, hair and skin colours in humans!. All these facts are linked to make us appreciate this “Web of life!”

1.Forests:

Forests are an invaluable natural resource; they help to control the climate, provide us with timber and other products, and are home to well over half all terrestrial species.

2.Mountains:

Mountains have an exceptionally high biodiversity and cultural diversity. They cover 24% of the earth's land surface and about 25% of the global population lives or very near mountains.

3.The marine world

Oceans cover 70% of the world’s surface and contain some of the most remote ecosystems on earth. Human activity is threatening natural marine resources, with coastal zones being under the most pressure.

4.Freshwater:

Fresh water is absolutely essential for human survival. It’s the most vulnerable resource. The demand for water is becoming increasingly hard to supply without having negative impacts on wildlife.
