The answer is quite simply because the quality of our planet depends on it. Plants for example, give off oxygen and take in carbon dioxide; they clean the air. And simply because they exist!

What is Socotra..?
Many people have heard about Socotra, but very few people have ever been there, or can imagine what it is really like..!!. Socotra is an island in the Indian Ocean, at the entrance of gulf Aden (Yemen). It is known to be home to some of the world’s most bizarre plants for centuries. It is known to the ancient Greeks; it came under the British protection in 1886 and joined southern Yemen (now Yemen) in 1967. The island contains about 50,000 inhabitants.

Moreover, the natural history is superb, especially the plant life, and the under water environment is so unique and marvellous. The climate is generally tropical desert, with rainfall being light (seasonal), and more abundant at the higher ground in the interior than along the coastal lowlands. The name of the island is believed to come from Sanskrit “Dipva Sakharda” which can be translated into “island of bliss”. |
